Dabbing on Blush

A flush on the cheeks makes us look bright and cherry. Unless you have naturally born rosy cheeks, the rest of us have to count on makeup blessings to help us look 'alive'. Besides choosing the right blush colours, it is the right way of applying blush.

The most common method is to sweep the blusher brush on our cheekbones. Depending on your face structure, it can be swept upwards, downwards, sideways, sidesways up, sidesways down, in circles etc.. Here's another blusher application method that also gives excellent results.

Hold the blusher brush with the bristles pointing upwards. Press it against the apples of your cheek. The base of the bristles should touch just below your cheekbones. And just dab on your favourite blusher color following the length of your cheekbones. Dab on more blusher colour for rosier cheeks. You don't have to follow the full length of the cheekbones when you apply more blush, just dab on the areas that you want more color. Finish off with a final sweep to your temples. This makeup technique will allow you to have better control on how much color you want to have on when you are not sure how much is enough, and not knowing where to apply the blush. By dabbing on the blush, you also have better control on the area you want to color to be. You can replace the brush with a sponge wedge, and use your fingers to blend away the hard edges. A sponge wedge is more suited for liquid, gel or mousse blush formula.

Resist using the small blusher brush that comes together with the compact. Invest in a good holding brush with soft bristles. A brush with the correct length of handle gives you better control. Scratchy bristles will hurt the skin surface and will damage the natural skin smoothness in due run.
